Cabezo

Cabezo is El Médano´s northern most bay and is where the hard-core wave action takes place. Breaking over volcanic reef, the benefits are the fastest, most powerful waves El Médano has to offer. Cross-on from the left, the sailing standard here is high and you will be battling with the best windsurf wave sailors for the waves, but if you have the ability and confidence the experience can be unforgettable.

Cabezo is at its best at mid to high tide. It’s sailable at low tide, but the rocks are very close to the surface ready to rip fins off and gouge the boards of the unaware. Of course it´s not always full-on hardcore conditions and on the more relaxing days you can see a huge drop in the number of windsurfers taking to the water, but when it’s good it’s epic!

If you want to ride in Cabezo, take some time to watch the break before going in the water and ensure you are fully aware of the rules of wave-riding.

Cabezo has its own smaller beach from which to launch from, but be warned the launch is very tight over a slippery reef and just downwind of you is Godzilla, a reef formation, just waiting for those who don’t get it right!

Cabezo can also be reached by sailing upwind from the Harbour wall, but the lack of welcoming sandy beach means it’s a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
